Welcome to the dossier of Jamila Woods!

 

Jamila Woods is a researcher, educator, and a licensed social worker in the state of Texas.  Jamila’s research interests include: increasing continuity of care within mental health systems; salubrious treatment for persons with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders; spirituality and HIV/AIDS; combining cognitive behavioral therapy with web technology for increasing treatment adherence among persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses; cognitive behavioral therapy for depression; and psychosocial issues affecting African American individuals & families, especially women.

 

In addition to teaching and research, Jamila is very involved in community education, teaching on topics related to mental health, including developing behavioral techniques for coping with depression, and using spirituality as a coping mechanism for depression.

 

This website currently serves as Jamila’s Teaching Portfolio.  Throughout this website you will find the following information about Jamila:  her professional social work experience and education (Curriculum Vitae); her research experience (Research Agenda); her attitudes about teaching (Teaching Philosophy); and sample course material, including a syllabus, lesson plans, assessment tools, and instructor and course evaluations (Sample Course) for a mental health practice course that Jamila foresees teaching in the near future.

About Jamila:

Jamila Woods was born and raised in Houston, Texas.  She earned her bachelors degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston.  Jamila is currently working towards her doctorate in Social Work at the University of Texas-Arlington. Jamila desires to become an Assistant Social Work Professor because she values social work education and believes it is her obligation to give back to society in this capacity.
